Traffic Court Records in Gibson County
Traffic cases here run through Superior Court, not a city court. Under the county's current allocation rule, Gibson Superior Court receives every Title 9 traffic felony and misdemeanor, all IF infractions, and ordinance matters coded OV or OE. Circuit and Superior both appear in Indiana's Odyssey directory. No separate Gibson city or town court appears there. So a citation written in Princeton, Oakland City, Fort Branch, Haubstadt, or Owensville does not create a city-court record on its own.
The court-side file lives with the Gibson Clerk. Through MyCase you can see the citation. You can also see case type, setting, case events, plea or disposition, and some financial information. The Clerk should confirm a current balance or an official copy. Charging authority and case type still matter. Read the court name printed on the citation. Check the court field in the public result.
Gibson Tickets May Post Late
The county traffic instructions warn that a ticket can take one to two weeks to enter the system. A blank search in that window does not mean the citation vanished. Keep the paper ticket. Keep its printed initial hearing date too. Search again by citation number and by name, with Gibson County selected. The county's own page shows the local traffic instructions.
If the record still has not appeared, call the Clerk traffic line at 812-386-6474 rather than ignoring the date on the citation.
How to Look Up a Traffic Ticket
Use Indiana MyCase for the case record. The Case tab takes a case number, citation number, or cross-reference. The Name tab accepts last and first name. Birth date works as a narrowing field, and so does a business name. When category controls appear, select Gibson County and use Criminal & Citation.
- Read the citation number and initial hearing date from the paper ticket.
- Search the citation number in MyCase with Gibson County selected.
- If needed, search by name and birth date, then match the court and filing details.
- Call 812-386-6474 or visit the Clerk at 101 N. Main Street in Princeton if it has not posted.
- Record the case number, newest setting, balance, and response deadline from the matching file.
| Search Field | Use | Format Note |
|---|---|---|
| Citation Number | Best match to the ticket | No single statewide citation format |
| Case Number | Direct case lookup | Gibson Superior begins 26D01 |
| Name | Fallback without the ticket | Add first name and birth date to narrow |
Gibson County Traffic Citation Codes
A traffic or ordinance filing in Gibson Superior can carry IF for an infraction. It can also carry OV for an ordinance violation. Title 9 misdemeanors and felonies use the matching criminal type. In a full cause number, the court identifier 26D01 separates Superior from Circuit.
Treat the code as a routing clue, not a statement about the outcome. Match it against the defendant, filing date, status, and newest Case Events. A citation number has no uniform statewide format. Keep the full number printed on the ticket. Fall back to a name search when needed.
Gibson Traffic Payment Paths
The Clerk takes payment in person by cash, cashier's check, money order, Visa, Mastercard, or Discover. A card convenience fee applies. Personal checks are not accepted. For mail, include the ticket or case number, the defendant name, a cashier's check or money order, and a self-addressed stamped envelope for a receipt. Send everything to Gibson County Clerk's Office, 101 N. Main St., Suite 9, Princeton, IN 47670.
The county links the official public-access payment route. The convenience fee appears before submission.
If the ticket has not been assessed, the county says to call the Clerk instead of guessing the amount.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
The initial infraction hearing date is printed on the ticket. Once the citation posts, confirm that date through the newest MyCase event. An event can show date, time, judge, setting label, and a comment. The courtroom location is not always listed. Check later entries for words like continued, reset, rescheduled, or vacated.
| Citation Number | The ticket identifier; the related cause number may begin 26D01. |
|---|---|
| Court | Gibson Superior for local-rule traffic, infraction, and ordinance categories. |
| Date & Time | The printed initial hearing and the newest public event, if posted. |
| Location | Confirm with the court when the event does not show a room. |
| Status | Read with the latest events, plea, disposition, and payment entries. |
Never treat a past setting as current if a later event changes it. Superior Court can be reached at 812-386-6237; the Clerk traffic line is 812-386-6474.
Paying or Contesting a Ticket
At the initial hearing, a defendant may admit or deny the infraction. An admission, or a no-contest response, has the same effect as a judgment. The record then goes to Indiana BMV and the relevant licensing state. A denial requests a judge trial. The county says the defendant must appear. A trial date cannot be changed by telephone.
| Pay or Admit | Deny or Contest |
|---|---|
| Produces a judgment on the court record. | Requests a judge trial and later setting. |
| Use the in-person, mail, or online channels the Clerk authorizes. | Follow the response and appearance instructions from the court. |
| Confirm the assessed amount before submission. | Do not assume a phone call changes the trial date. |
Missed date or payment: Failure to pay or appear may lead to license suspension. The county schedule also lists a $25 addition for failure to appear or pay where applicable. Contact the Clerk promptly for the correct cure route.
Gibson County Traffic Record Requests
MyCase shows the citation but not always the order or payment entry you need. Contact the Gibson County Clerk in that case. Give the Superior Court cause number, ticket number, event date, and the exact item sought. Say whether you need inspection, a plain copy, or a certified copy.
The Clerk works by phone, mail, and counter. The office posts no general court-record order form or copy-price schedule. Confirm the current cost and delivery method before sending payment. A BMV driver record remains a separate state file. It cannot replace the court's citation record.
Existing Gibson Judgment Payments
Judgments already entered go through a separate BridgePay route provided by the county. You will need the cause or case number. The route adds a 3.5% processing fee. Do not confuse this with a MyCase search. Also do not confuse it with paying a ticket that has not yet been assessed. The official gateway explains the process.
Use this gateway to tell a judgment payment apart from the first-stage ticket search. Check the cause number and the amount before you pay, because the processing fee attaches to this route and only this route.
Gibson Deferral Needs Approval
The county lists deferral as a possible route, but the Prosecutor decides who gets it. The published deferral phone number is 812-385-5497. The county's fee schedule dated July 1, 2023 lists $192. That date matters, since fees and eligibility rules can shift over time. A defensive-driving program the county mentions does not replace the response instructions printed on your ticket. Gibson County posts no public page covering defensive-driving eligibility. It also posts none on photo enforcement, or a separate municipal traffic portal. So check with the Clerk or the Prosecutor before you pay, enroll, or count on the case being withheld from judgment.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
Two different offices hold these records. The Gibson court docket shows what happened in the citation case itself. The BMV driver record covers driving history. It also covers citations, violations, suspensions, and points. Check BMV as well as the court if you want your license status.
| Court Traffic Record | Driver Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept By | Gibson Clerk and Superior Court | Indiana BMV |
| Shows | Citation, setting, plea, disposition, payment | Driving history, violations, suspensions, points |
| Access | MyCase or Clerk request | Free viewable record; $4 certified record |
Indiana keeps moving-violation points active for two years from conviction. That driver-record rule does not change the Gibson docket. And a court docket search never replaces BMV license-status information.
Gibson Traffic Caseload Context
Official 2024 reporting records 3,580 Superior Court civil-violation filings. The volume makes sense. A local route sends infractions and ordinance violations to Superior, so a fresh citation may take time to show up in a docket search.
That count is context, not a prediction. Give it the one-to-two-week window, then call the Clerk if the citation still has not appeared.
Gibson Traffic Terms in Plain English
Case labels tell you where a case sits and who can see it. Indiana Administrative Rule 8 sets the type system, and Gibson's local rule sends traffic cases to Superior Court.
- Infraction
- A civil violation coded IF.
- Ordinance violation
- A local-law matter using OV or OE.
- Citation number
- The ticket identifier accepted by MyCase.
- Cause number
- The court number used for the docket and payments.
- Initial hearing
- The first date printed on an infraction ticket.
Trust the case type over the town printed on a ticket. The official Odyssey directory lists no Gibson city court.
Fees and Copies
The county's dated fee schedule lists common totals. But it warns that fines and costs change. Treat the table as a rough guide, not a current legal quote. One conservation row even disagrees with itself. That is one more reason to confirm the assessed amount with the Clerk.
| Published Item | Dated Total | Current Check |
|---|---|---|
| Speeding 1–15 over / 16–35 over / over 36 | $149 / $159 / $169 | Confirm with Clerk |
| Construction zone / school zone | $444 / $204 | Confirm with Clerk |
| Seatbelt or child restraint | $25 | Confirm with Clerk |
| Other infractions / trucking | $149 / $159 | Confirm with Clerk |
| Certified court copy | Not published | Request quote from Clerk |
For a court-record copy, know the case number and the exact order or event you need. The county publishes no current certified-copy charge, so ask the Clerk directly. A MyCase printout is informational only, never a Clerk-certified record.
